Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, a red sandstone Mughal fortress, is a historic fort in the city of Delhi in India. It was the main dwelling of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for almost 200 years, until 1856. It is a breathtaking architectural masterpiece that is beautiful outside and spellbinding inside! Every year on the Independence Day of India (15 August) the Indian "tricolor flag" is hoisted by the Prime Minister at the main gate of the fort, where he delivers a nationally broadcast speech from its ramparts.
The nearest metro stations are the Red Fort Metro Station and Chandni Chowk Metro Station. If you choose to deboard at Chandni Chowk Metro Station then you have to exit from Gate No. 5 and walk about 500 meters to reach the Red Fort.
