In the corner of Janpath lies the National Museum standing tall and proud showcasing the history of India. It is one of the largest museums in India which was founded in 1949. It houses a number of articles that range from the pre-historic era to various modern works of art by renowned artists. You will find around 200,000 works of art, which are of both Indian as well as foreign origin, covering a span of 5,000 years. It is also home to the National Museum Institute of History of Arts, Conservation and Musicology. It is looked after by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. If you are interested in art and history, you should definitely visit the National Museum.
The nearest metro stations to the National Museum are the Central Secretariat and the Udyog Bhavan Metro, both of which are situated on the yellow line. The museum is roughly around 3 - 4 km from the metro; you can either hire a local or a battery-run rickshaw.
