St. John’s Cathedral, Belize, is the oldest Anglican church in Central America. The cathedral is a popular house of worship, and also a symbol of Belize’s colonial past. It was built by African slaves with bricks brought from Europe in ships during the 1800s. It was constructed over a period of eight years. Despite being small compared to other cathedrals, this is the only place outside of England where kings were crowned by the British. The Church besides its spiritual enigma is also a crowd puller with its skilled woodwork and artistic interiors. Visit the cathedral and discover some unique royal history and explore the beautiful interiors and the adjacent cemetery.
St. John’s Cathedral is located at the intersection of Regent Street and Albert Street, right across the House of Culture. St. John’s is an easy 10-minute walk from the Swing Bridge. It is only 2.7 Kms from the city center and can be reached by taxi.
