The Belize museum was built 150 years ago by the British colonial government as an adobe to house arrest prisoners. Many years later was converted into a museum by the independent Government of Belize. Today the building houses a full capacity of ancient artifacts that dates back to more than 3000 years. Belize is the major land of the Mayan Empire, has a rich collection of displays related to the Mayan cultural heritage and lifestyle. The displays from the British colonial era like the stamps and postcards are captivating. You can also experience the authentic prison cell and the amazing display of insects, especially the botfly. The place, in a nutshell, explains the cultural and historical heritage of the city with its varied displays.
It is around 2 Kms from the city center and can be easily reached by taxi. Walking is also a good option as it is close by.
