Known as one of Belize's top birding spots, Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary spans 16,400 acres. It has more than 3,000 acres of lagoons, swamp, and marsh making it one of the largest birding sites. Take a canoe and explore the magnificent sights of our feathered friends. You can also spot crocodiles, iguanas, turtles, coatis and the jabiru stork which is the largest flying bird in Central and South America. You can easily spot 20 to 40 different species of birds any time of the year, although the highest birding happens from November to April. Visitors who are not bird enthusiasts can rent canoes, bikes, even horses and explore the sanctuary. The Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary is co-managed by the Belize Forest Department and the Belize Audubon Society.
There are direct buses to Crooked Tree village from Belize City. Buses depart from Belize City- Monday to Friday at 10:50 am and 4:45 pm and Saturday at 10:50 am. Buses may not be available on Sundays.
