Viktualienmarkt is a major outdoor market of Munich which is a popular spot among tourists and locals to shop for a variety of fruits, vegetables, groceries and more. It dates back to 1807 when King Maximilian I ordered the Marienplatz market to move to where it is now, as it was too crowded. Over the years the market place has significantly expanded with more than 140 booths, several pavilions, and restaurants, stretching up to 22,000m². You can treat yourself to some freshly made cheese, bread, honey, dairy products, meat, seafood, pastries, and sausages. The market also has a beer garden which serves fresh beer straight from the barrels.
The market is located within walking distance of Marienplatz. You can also take transit S1, S2, S3, S4, S6 or S8 to reach here. Use the short trip tickets starting from 1.70 EUR for up to 3 stations with S-Bahn and U-Bahn or 6 stations with bus or tram.
You can take a taxi via Sonnenstraße and Blumenstraße. It is a six minutes drive and can cost you 2.5 to 3 EUR.
