A sure-fire hit among the young and the old is a visit to the Tierpark Hellabrunn (Hellabrunn Zoo). Built in 1911, Hellabrunn is not a zoo in the classical sense. It is more of a nature preserved within the beautifully landscaped Isar meadows and home to a wide variety of animals and birds. It has a high number of enclosures which are cageless and relies more on the moat features to keep animals in place. The zoo is designed in a way that enables visitors to enjoy the extraordinary and unobstructed view of animals in their natural habitat. The animal shows at Hellabrunn Zoo is extremely fun to watch. It is equally entertaining and informative for kids and adults alike. The zoo also offers short walks to pet zoo animals. There are many meeting points for animal keepers, where you can ask questions about your favorite animals/birds. The zoo also takes steps to conserve and breed rare species. It is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria(EAZA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and participates in the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP).
Subway U3, MetroBus line 52 and ExpressBus line X98 can be taken to reach Tierpark Hellabrunn from the city center. Use the short trip tickets starting from 1.70 EURO for up to 3 stations with S-Bahn and U-Bahn or 6 stations with bus or tram.
It is 2.5 Kms by car via Goethestraße and Tumblingerstraße and will cost you 4.75 EURO.
