St Peter's Church is one of Munich’s major landmarks and the oldest parish church in the city and is referred to fondly by the locals as Alter Peter (“Old Peter”). The Romanesque-style church hosts services many times a day and is well worth attending if one wishes to admire the majestic interior of the building. There are many interesting paintings and sculptures on the walls and the ceiling that date back to hundreds of years. Visitors can also climb the tower "Alter Peter," accessible via 299 steps for a breathtaking panoramic view of Munich's center. Many landmarks of the beautiful city and the Alps can be seen from the top. The observation deck has telescopes that allow an interesting detailed look at the Old Town. The various styles depicted in the works of art is due mainly because the church that has been standing since the 11th century, has undergone several renovations and expansions. Notable among these are the beautifully crafted altar and the large ceiling frescoes that runs along the entire nave.
You can take the S-Bahn (S1/S2/S3/S4/S6/S7/S8) from Karlsplatz to Munich Marienplatz station and walk for one minute to reach the church.
