Odeonsplatz is a popular tourist spot close to the Marienplatz and has a lot of historical significance. A large historic pedestrian square, with the Theatine Church on one side and the Munich Residenz on the other, Odeonsplatz marks the spot where the Schwabinger Tor once stood. Also, the entrance to the old city from the village of what was once called Schwabing. Years later, Odeonsplatz made history again in 1923 during the Hitlerputsch. Another main attraction at the Feldherrnhalle are the two massive Bavarian lions: one stands with its mouth wide open and the other with its mouth shut. It is said to symbolize the importance of speaking up against the governance but never against the Church.
