Michaelskirche is the ultimate place of pilgrimage in Munich. This massive church was built in the 15th century and stands proudly as one of the major attractions of the city. It is also one of the largest and finest Jesuit churches on Earth. Initially, the church was built with a massive barrel-vaulted roof, but in 1590 the roof collapsed destroying the newly made choir. The duke then decided to expand the church as it was considered a bad omen. The building was further expanded and the construction lasted till 1597. The interiors of the church are lined with beautiful bronze statues. It is also the resting place of the royals.
It is only 900 meters from the city center. You can walk to the church or take a short taxi ride via Schwanthalerstraße. It will cost you a minimum charge of 1.90 EURO.
