About Hauptwache

Built in the year 1730 according to the plans of the city's master builder Samhainger, Hauptwache is a busy geographical centre at the western end of Zeil and an important cross-point of Frankfurt public transport system. Originally called Schillerplatz, it had a name change in the early 1900's and is characterised by the Old Guard House and baroque building. The square is a buzzing and vibrant outdoor shopping area lined with historic buildings, shops, open-aired restaurants and cafes and has plenty of options to shop and eat. The centre point of Frankfurt, Hauptewache is one of the most popular shopping plazas and definitely a must-visit spot for tourists in Frankfurt.
