It as an important connector between the Yangtze River valley and the Yellow River valley, and other minor river systems. It is the world's longest man-made waterway, 1,800km long. The journey from point A to point B can only be described as serene and relaxing. The beautiful little corners of the city are exposed and give an illusion of a country stuck in the past. Beautiful houses with steps all the way down to the canal give access to locals to the water supply and also an opportunity for the tourists to observe the locals activities.
