Panmen Gate is the oldest city gate of Suzhou and it is the only existing water and land gate in China. Panmen Gate is located on the south-west corner of the main canal in Suzhou. It was built during the Warring States period. It is around 2,500 years old. The history and culture of Suzhou have been influenced heavily after the construction of the gate. The main architectures in Panman Scenery Area, such as ancient city wall and Ruiguang Pagoda have been repaired as they had heavily depreciated over the years. Halls, ancestral temples, ponds, and rockeries have also been reconstructed, and pavilions, bridges, and caves newly built. The scenic area has been a popular historical and cultural tourist attraction with featured Suzhou style designs.
