About Wutong Mountain

Mount Wutong is an absolutely beautiful natural topographical wonder with mountain springs, rivers, forests, and verdant natural vegetation. Enjoy a challenging hike through nature. It is rated as one of the "Top Eight Shenzhen Scenic Spots" from where, Hong Kong, Dapeng Bay, Yantian Port, and Shatoujiao and the whole city and beyond is at one's feet. Wutong is also home to several wild animals and special state protection is accorded to animals like boas, pangolins, and kites. A great challenge is to climb Wutong Mountain every day but do check on the weather prior to starting from the base. You can either start your hike from the base of the mountain or drive up halfway on the road and commence on your hike. Taking the stone steps will seem an arduous task as they seem neverending at times but the scenic, sylvan trail and the panoramic vistas from the top are well worth all the effort.

Must See

Beautiful View of Hongkong and Shenzen on either side.

How to reach

Bus No 211 from the corner of Dongmen Road and Shennan Avenue takes to the final destination.

Tips

  •  There are two peaks here, Mount Wutong and the Lesser Wutong. If your stamina levels are good you can do both, otherwise with scaling just the Mount you can witness stunning panoramic views of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
  • Ensure you check on the weather before you embark on the climb.
  • Avoid weekends and the days of the Chinese festivals.
  • Witness the natural bounty all along the trail, good for photo ops.
  • Late spring and early fall are probably the best times to go to avoid the crowds.
  •  Cell phone connectivity is good.
  •  Do come prepared to encounter a lot of stairs and physical activity.
  •  Make sure your shoes have good traction.
  •  Better take long pants with you as also a cap and sunglasses.
  •  You can buy food and water near the top of the trail, but only during the summer months and hence it would make sense to arrange for some alternative.
  •  There are no washrooms along this trail.
