This historic canal is the longest man-made waterway in the world, a whopping 1764 km long! On UNESCO's World Heritage List, the Grand Canal Hangzhou, also known as the Jinghang or Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, was built as a transportation hub by the Sui Dynasty more than 2000 years ago! It is considered the lifeline of China by providing transportation and agriculture for multiple Chinese dynasties. The Grand Canal, unlike West Lake, truly depicts the life and culture of the ordinary people of China.
