The Museum of History, established inside a mansion inspired by the Renaissance, has a huge collection of artifacts and scriptures. The museum started in 1920 and common people were granted entry in 1921. The exhibits cover almost every topic from ancient to modern history, with an emphasis on the conflict with neighboring Armenia. This is the largest museum in Azerbaijan with more than 300,000 artifacts. It was the former residence of the philanthropist and industrialist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. The museum covers everything from prehistoric people to present-day Azerbaijan, with a heavy focus on the conflict with Armenia. It further depicts the country’s development through the different ruling dynasties with emphasis on Persian, Ottoman and Russian empires.
The place is 800 meters from the city center. Walk for 10 minutes via Neftciler Prospecti.
