The Maiden‘s Tower is one of the oldest buildings and also one of the most distinct emblems of the city. There are a number of legends and folk-lores related to this tower, which was part of many popular media adaptations too. This thousand-year-old tower is one of the tallest buildings with a height of ninety-five feet and it is listed in the UNESCO world heritage list. The cylindrical tower served as a Zoroastrian temple and was later transformed into a watchtower in the late eighteenth century. There is a brazier on the top of the tower, which is lit during the nights of the Holy Novruz Festival. From the top, there is a great view of the whole old town of Baku.
