  • Embrace the local culture and learn Korean etiquette.
  • Check out Korean Bath Houses (Jjimjilbang).
  • Arrive slightly early to events in Seoul to avoid crowds.

  • Explore Seoul’s most dynamic nightlife.

Don’ts

  • Don’t ignore the museums and cultural sites in Seoul.
  • Don’t mumble in cabs/taxis. Speak very slowly and clearly. Cab drivers don’t like people who speak loudly.
  • Don’t fall prey to fake agencies.
  • Don’t leave the table until you are done with the meal. If you need to go to the bathroom, try to go before sitting at the dining table; it is rude to leave the table while eating.

Night Life

Nightlife in Seoul is completely different from other Western cities. In Seoul, heavy drinking sessions are held every night. Koreans prefer to party in cha, or rounds, eating and carousing at multiple locations until the early hours of the morning. As such, most bars, clubs, and restaurants are booked for parties. For a visitor, it's better to book a table in advance. There are a number of bars in Seoul. Koreans favor the "self-bar," where you can grab your own beer from one of the many refrigerators and pay when you leave. So expect impressive drinking techniques, outrageous drinking games, and even a few Seoul Trains.
