This is the last remaining structures of the Medieval Old Town defenses that once encircled the city. In the mid-19th century, Austrian forces occupied the city and demolished the seven other towers but thankfully spared St Florian's Gate. The gate is the main entryway to the town of Krakow and is connected by a long bridge. It's one of the most photographed structures in Krakow. Street musicians commonly play beneath the tower, and ranks of paintings by local artists are sold in the open on either side of the gate. There is a hidden chapel in the tower which is easily accessible via the City Defensive Walls Museum. Foodies should be sure to visit the Florianska Street which is full of famous restaurants offering exotic delicacies and souvenir shops.
