Memorial heritage: The mound is a tribute to the great Polish Leader (and American) military hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Soil from the Polish and American battlefields where Kościuszko fought was placed here. It provides a history of Poland's inevitable struggle for freedom. The location selected for the monument is the natural Blessed Bronisława Hill. The entrance is through a small neo-Gothic chapel, which holds an exhibition of memorabilia related to Kosciuszko. There is a wax museum featuring influential Polish people from across the ages. The large brick fortification at the mound’s foothill is a fortress built by the Austrians. Walk on top of the mound and enjoy a panoramic view of the Vistula River and a stunning 360-degree view of Krakow. There is also a nice coffee shop with a viewing deck where you can enjoy a break until the next bus back to town.
Adventurous walk up to the top of the mound.
View of entire Krakow city from the top.
Museum around the mound.
To reach the mound, you need to get to the Salwator tram stop (take tram nr 2 from the main railway station), and then take bus nr 100. If you like walking, you can reach the mound on foot from the tram stop (just over a mile), heading uphill up St. Bronislava's Street.
Buses: Bus numbers (152,252,124,101)
You will be able to see all of Kraków from there but choose the weather carefully.
Poorly signposted for English-only speaking folk.
There are no safety measures in place to save people from falling over the edge so if you suffer from heights, go with someone to hang onto.
There is a winding cobbled path from the bottom that is steep so if you take it easy, you won't be out of breath when you reach the viewing platform at the top.
