This is the oldest garden with beautiful greenery and lavish fountains attached to the Jagiellonian University originally founded for the medical faculty and now centre for plant conservation and research. Its botanical collections consist of more than 5,000 specimens collected over 200 years from Poland, Africa, and Indonesia. Its educational collection includes models of fungi, flowers, and parts of plants. It also displays some scientific manuscripts, photos, slides, and audio-visual materials. A special attraction is a 500-year-old oak and a fine collection of carnivorous plants, blossoms in diverse colours over the grounds, which once was the Wisla riverbed. It has large greenhouses - two of them very tall with enormous tropical trees inside one of them. Sit by the lake and just watch the wildlife. Bring a camera or a book and spend the day here.
