This beautiful architecture serves as the seat of the government and is home to the President of Paraguay. This is located at the historic center of Asuncion. The rear of the Palace is close to Bahia de Asuncion( Paraguay River). The construction of this building was started in the year 1857 by the erstwhile ruler Carlos Antonio Lopez for his son Francisco Solano Lopez. The building was designed by an English Architect, Alonzo Taylor, and it took 10 years to complete. Various artifacts were collected from Europe to decorate this building. However, during the Triple Alliance War, the building was bombed and looted. Subsequently, it was restored and made the seat of power. The architecture of the building has a hint of French architecture. There is a garden in the front as well as at the back. However, due to the heavy security, the tourists cannot enter the area and have to enjoy the beauty from a distance. The building was earlier white in color but now has been redone in a pink shade. The palace is illuminated in the night and looks stunning. Many tourists have found the Palace to be very attractive from the riverfront side i.e Costanera Avenue. One can sit on a bench in the park and enjoy both the waterfront and the beauty of the Palace.
