It was during the time of the erstwhile President Carlos Lopez in the year 1861, that the rail services started in Paraguay. The coaches used to be powered by steam locomotives and this continued till the end of the rail services in 1999. What used to be an active center of transportation once upon a time, is now a museum. Upon entering the station/museum, one would feel as if he has gone back to the period 19th Century. There are an old dining car and one small steam locomotive placed on the track. Visitors are permitted to enter the dining car to get a feel of arrangements those days. Many tourists have found this to be quite nostalgic. There are many photos, exhibits, and documents available in the museum which would give a good amount of information to the tourists. There is also a big steam locomotive kept just opposite the museum. However, the commercial activities surrounding the engine spoils the period feel. The museum is a must visit for all the enthusiasts who loved the old way of the railway services using steam engines, conventional signaling system, lights, passenger coaches and dining cars.
