This famous church is located in the eastern outskirt of Asuncion city in an area known as Trinidad district. It has been built on a hill. The church holds historical importance as it was built as a personal place of prayer (chapel) by the erstwhile ruler, President Carlos Antonio Lopez. The church faces the home of its creator Don Lopez. It was designed by an Italian, Alexandro Raviza, in 1864. Carlos Antonio took a personal interest in the beautification of the church. On his demise, President Carlos was buried here. His remains rested in the church till they were transferred to the National Pantheon of the Heroes during the second half of the 20th Century. The facade of the church gives a look of a pyramid and is alluring. The ceiling of the church has colorful paintings and it looks magnificent. The name of the church, which is the central aisle, has colorful artwork on arches. The Franciscan altarpiece is surrounded by the images of Easter celebration. Overall, this church is worth visiting.

There is no timing mentioned in any web site. Tourists have tried to obtain the timings from the office of the Parish but they found it to be closed during the time given. Some tourists have recommended visiting the church during Mass conducted every day at 07:00 a.m. and at 07:00 p.m. On Sunday, an additional mass is conducted at 10:00 a.m too. The church is closed on Sunday afternoons.
