Constructed between 1893 and 1903, this palace is where Mongolia’s eighth Living Buddha, and last king, Bogd Khan, resided for twenty years. The palace was spared devastation by the Russians and transformed into a museum, no one knows why. The summer palace, on the other hand of Tuul Gol, was totally destroyed. There are six temples in the grounds each containing Buddhist artworks, including thangkas and sculptures.
The Winter Palace is where you will see a room displaying the king and queen's unusual living arrangements, and a compilation of gifts received from international dignitaries, like a pair of golden boots from a Russian, a garment made from eighty cursed foxes and a ger lined with the skins of one hundred and fifty leopards.
Bogd Khan’s affection for unusual wildlife demonstrates the extraordinary array of stuffed animals in the mansion. Some of them had been part of his private zoo. Check out the photo of the Bogd’s elephant purchased from Russia. The exhibit has temporary displays from the palace's collection.
The museum is 3.2 km away from the city center.
