The Skopje Zoo had a very humble beginning in the year 1926 with a couple of animals and very limited space. The habitat conditions of the animals were not good. A few of them had died because of bad upkeep. However, a new thrust to improve the condition of the zoo started in the year 2008. New enclosures have been made for the animals in this 30-acre zoo. The Skopje Zoo is trying to become a member of the European Association of Zoo and Aquaria. The upgraded facilities in the zoo have been appreciated by visitors. The zoo has around 85 species of animals consisting of big cats, elephants, bears, wolves, sea lion, eagles, and many more. The zoo has a separate play area for children to give them their own space to enjoy the environment in an independent manner. An operational natural history museum is also there. Visitors can visit it by paying an additional amount of 60 MKD. There are three cafeterias here, one at the entrance, the other one in the middle, and one near the pond. Tourists with children should make this place a part of their itinerary.
