The Museum of Macedonian Struggle of Independence gives fairly a good idea about Macedonian's freedom struggle right from the beginning, that is, from the struggle against the Ottoman regime to freedom from Yugoslavia. It talks about the internal revolutionary organization of North Macedonia and also about the victims of the communist regime. There is an option for visitors to opt for a guided tour inside the museum. The museum was opened to the general public in September 2001 on the occasion of the 20th year of independence celebration. The history of the independence struggle has been explained by wax statues and paintings made by Russian, Ukrainian and Macedonian artists. The life-size wax statues and paintings have tried to do justice in portraying the story as close as possible to reality. However, many tourists have cautioned that some of the depictions may not be suitable for viewing by children because of their gory details. The Information board for the exhibits do have information in English but it does not cover the topic in detail. Therefore, availing the facility of a guide is advisable.
