Though there are many mosques in Skopje, the most talked about and the most beautiful is Mustafa Pasha Mosque. Built in the late 15th Century, the mosque honors its creator Mustafa Pasha, a Vazeer (the Prime Minister) in Macedonia during the regimes of Sultan Bayazit II and Selim I, the Ottoman rulers. Architecturally, it represents Constantinople architecture of the Ottoman period. Those who have visited Istanbul will find architectural similarities with the mosques there. The structure is more than 500 years old but, by and large, still maintains its originality from the past. It has survived two major earthquakes. There has been minor restoration works carried out in the past. The most recent one was completed in 2011. The minaret of the mosque is 47 meters high and enhances the beauty of the mosque. Spring is the time when the roses bloom in the garden and fill the place with their fragrance. Visible from almost all the places of Skopje, the mosque is located on a plateau. It is close to Fort Skopje and Old Bazaar.
