In 2011, the Memorial Center was opened in the memory of the Macedonian Jews killed during the genocide by the Nazis. It is a memorial to give respect to the 7,148 Holocaust Jews and to the Jews of the Balkan region who were deported. It is a multimedia center and located at the place where once the Jews colony existed. The memorial not only talks about the Holocaust but gives details about Judaism in Macedonia and Balkan regions. It looks back at the history starting from 1492 i.e. from the Spanish expulsion time, to the Roman era, and to the present age. The history has been explained through texts, photos, videos, and few sculptures. Looking at the train carriage/cattle wagon in which the Jews were loaded and transported to the camps or directly to the gas chambers in Treblinka may depress visitors.
