A little outside the city, the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum is an excellent place to explore the culture of Latvia. The open-air museum prides itself in covering a wide array of local culture. The local life of the 18th and 19th centuries is well depicted by way of artifacts such as recreated homes, churches, windmills, etc. It is located in the midst of a forest, next to a lake. It is dotted with wooden houses, giving a glimpse of life 200 years ago. There are wooden churches and windmills too. A lot of events are arranged throughout the year for the entertainment of the visitors. Try to visit on weekends in the summertime when special events are organized.
It is 8.7 km away from the Riga City Center.
