The architecture and aesthetics of the Umayyad Palace were developed by the caliphate in the heartlands of Syria and Palestine. This style is a mix of pre-Arabic Middle Eastern influence on Byzantine architecture and the caliphate's own innovations. The result is a unique style that focuses on reusing already-existing buildings and materials to create something entirely new. It is why this palace is so different from all others in Jordan. The restored domed entrance chamber, also known as the "kiosk" or "monumental gateway", is the best example of its ancient day's magnificence. It is located at the northern section of the upper Jabal al-Qala in Amman. Although a major part in ruins it's still a treat to witness such a classical form of construction.
It's better to hike up the steep hill and while the path is largely paved, it is not as smooth. You can catch a taxi from the city, it should cost you 1-2 JD.
