About Amman Citadel (Jabal al-Qal'a)

Jabal al-Qal' means the hill of the citadel. It has been around since antiquity, having been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic period (between 10000 and 2000 BC). Also known as Rabath Amman and Philadelphia, the Citadel is surrounded by ruins so spectacular you can't help but wonder how these things were built so long ago. This feeling of respect for the tenacity of older civilizations is only bolstered by the Temple of Hercules and the Ummayad Palace.
