Kyoto national museum is special. The rotating exhibitions here feature a wide variety of cultural properties including archeological relics, sculptures, ceramics, calligraphy, costumes, and paintings, mostly from or about pre-modern Asia. The museum was renovated, refurbished and designed by the architect Yoshio Taniguchi. In addition to the permanent exhibitions hosted, temporary exhibitions are held in the museum's original building during the Meiji period. The redbrick building along with the main entrance gates are exquisite examples of Meiji architecture and cultural significance. The art gallery was established in 1897, displaying works of historic arts and applied arts with regular exhibitions.
