About Daitoku-ji Temples

Daitoku-ji is a Buddhist temple of historical significance going back as far as the 17th century. 7 of the 22 buildings are open to the public which is inclusive of the Karamon, a gate constructed in Chinese style with an exquisitely-carved two-story main gate, Sammon, constructed in 1859. The main hall, Butsudan, constructed in 1664, is a prominent site for various paintings on the ceilings and statues of the Shakyamuni with his disciples Anna and Kayo. It has a lecture hall at the back of the main hall.

By bus: Bus no.101, 205, 206,9, bus fare 230 Yen

By Metro: Karasuma subway line to Kitaoji station, 260 Yen

  • Dress conservatively as it is a religious space.
