About Kiyomizu-Dera

Kyoto has many temples and shrines. Kiyomizu Dera stands as one of the few that visitors need to absolutely make time for. The temple stands proudly on top of a hill surrounded by local life. Climb the Chawan-Zaka or Kiyomizu Michi to get to it. At night during the cherry blossom season, lights from the temple dazzle and beam up the night sky, making everything around more beautiful. Shops around the temple sell amulets and other souvenirs. Don't forget to buy a wish-granting stone, you may never know if it works.
