About The Byodo-in Temple

Byodo-in temple was established in 998 A.D., making it older than a thousand years. Its beauty is as historic as the place is historical. Its halls are adorned with bronze phoenixes, wall art, and gilded figurines. The Kannon-do hall, adjoining the Phoenix hall, is built over the river (therefore also called the fishing hall) and dedicated to the Goddess Kannon. Byodo-in carries 52 wooden statues of the Buddha, a carved Phoenix, and the original temple bell. Right next door is the Zen Tenryu-Ji temple, located in the middle of fresh bamboos.
