The mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian and his family, the Castel Sant'Angelo, also known as Hadrian's Tomb, was converted into a museum in the early 1900s with countless collections of historical art, sculptures, and relics. Deriving its name from a statue of Archangel Michael perched atop it, this imposing fortress was once the tallest building in all of Rome. The upper portions of the fortress once served as a Papal residence, decorated with perfectly preserved frescoes from the Renaissance period as well as an extensive collection of ancient weapons.
