One of the four Major Basilicas of Rome, the Basilica Papale San Paolo Fuori le Mura was first erected as a memorial to St. Paul and then built into a magnificent basilica in the 4th Century with numerous renovations over hundreds of years. Despite being outside of the territory of Rome but within Italian territory, it is still owned by the Holy See. Below the nave windows are beautiful portraits of every Pope since St. Peter and there is a legend that when there is no more room for the next portrait, the world will fall.
It is 10 minutes from the city center by subway (line B) going towards Laurentina and get off at the San Paolo Basilica stop, which is a few minutes away from the Basilica.
Bus 23 going from Pincherle to Parravano stops near the Basilica at the Ostiense - S Paolo stop.
