About Lalbagh Botanical Garden

The scenic botanical gardens were developed during the rule of Hyder Ali and took the final shape during the rule of Tipu Sultan. It is one of the oldest and the well-maintained gardens of the city.Ravishing and enchanting the park is spread over an area of 240 acres. The garden has well-laid out roads, paths, open spaces, shade for visitors. There is a large variety of flowers, plants, and trees to learn about, it can serve as an excellent educational trip for students. It has a huge collection of rare species of plants such as Amherstia nobilis, Araucaria sp., Averrhoa bilimbi, Bambusa sp., Bixa orellana, Brownea grandiceps, Castanospermum australe, Cola acuminata, Corypha umbraculifera and from all over the world. It organizes grand flower shows, which are very popular among people of all ages. The seeds and plants can be bought from this park for oneself. It is a must visit for nature lovers.It is the centre stage for holding the famous biannual flower shows. It is a well-maintained park, with botanical gardens and lake and gazebos and a large glass house. It is a perfect place for a picnic or an outing with family and friends amidst greenery on weekends or holidays.

How to reach

It is 4Km. from the city center. One can take the Purple line or Green line metro route through which the distance can be covered in 10 minutes and the metros are available every 15 minutes.

Autos can also be hired, they have the starting price of Rs. 25 for first 2 Kms. , after that the price increases as Rs. 13 for every Km. traveled.

One can also board the local city bus with fares starting from 10 Rs. to 20 Rs.

  • Additional 50 Rs.charges have to be paid for photography from personal cameras
  • Mobile photography is allowed with no additional charges
  • Plastic is not allowed inside the park
  • One can carry eatables inside the park, littering is not allowed
  • The entry ticket is more on 26 January and 15th August
  • Parking is available outside the park on a paid basis
  • It is the best place for morning and evening walks
  • Benches are available for people to rest on
  • Park is easily approachable as it is well connected with metro and bus services are also good
  • Vendors are available inside the park selling snacks and drinks
  • Electric rickshaw are available inside the park
