A part of one of the oldest Islamic cities in the world, Islamic Cairo is essentially the walled city which was initially called Al-Qahira, most of which was raised by the Fatimid dynasty. This is a vast, busy and colorful area that contains hundreds of mosques, tombs, markets, and citadels. There is the Salah El-Din castle, Sultan Qawalun Mosque, Al-Hakim Mosque, and various minarets. Take a guided tour through the area or just start walking in one direction and explore it on foot, but be sure to learn of its rich and ancient history. There are a lot of little antique shops as well, along with cafes that serve sumptuous Egyptian fare and Egyptian coffee or mint tea.
There are many ways you can get to Islamic Cairo But the best option is to take a private car or public bus from the airport, and it will only take about 35 minutes for you to reach your destination which is about 21.6 km away.
