About Great Sphinx of Giza

The face of the Sphinx is said to represent the face of the Pharaoh Khafra. Terrifying One, as the Great Sphinx is known in Egypt, is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. Spanning from west to east, it stands distinctly on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The dimensions of this great monument are 20 m x 19 m x 73 m with a height of 20m.

How to reach

 Bus numbers 355 and 357 run from downtown to Giza Pyramids. The bus is cheap. Alternately, one may opt for white or yellow or black taxi. 

Tips

  • Wear a hat and sunglass to shade yourself from the sun.
  • Wear very comfortable shoes as you will be walking a lot through sand and dirt.
  • Do not forget to apply sun-screen while visiting the pyramids.
  • Camera permission for an extra 10 EGP.
  • Take a guided tour for a better experience, as recommended by visitors themselves.
