Opened in 1988, the Cairo Opera House is the main venue for the arts in Cairo. It is in the southern part of the Gezira island on River Nile. It has several theatres that take on different performing arts events like symphony orchestras, plays, Arab music, film festivals, and many more. The museum of modern Egyptian art is in this opera complex. It is a major tourist attraction as it holds a lot of events around the year. Events like the ballet concerts performed in winter, Omar Kairat's concert, and Yehya Khalil are also worth watching events.
Under the administration of the Opera house are seven venues in total. One of the theatres is the Main Hall which has space for an audience of 1200 people and is the largest of all the theatres.
Second, to mention is the Small Hall just like the name, it is smaller than the main hall and has a capacity of 500 guests. The small hall, however, is different because the seats are removable and are for other events that need a different sitting arrangement like conferences.
The third is the Open-Air Theatre, which allows for seating of 600 people a square-shaped stage, especially for outdoor performances. The fourth is the El Gomhouria Theatre near the Royal Palace.
Others are the Arab Music Institute, which is a perfect venue for Arab music performances, Alexandria Opera House also known as the Sayed Darwish Theatre, Alexandria, and The Roman Amphitheater, Alexandria which is mainly used in July and August for summer events.
