The Egyptian Museum, also known as the Museum of Cairo was founded in 1857 by the renowned French Egyptologist, Auguste Mariette. Moved to the current location in Downtown Cairo - in 1897. There are two main floors in the museum, the ground floor, and on the first floor. There are more than 120,000 antique artifacts in the museum - some in the storerooms and some are on a grand display. It is rightly thus called the Museum of Antiquities.
