Zoologico de Quito is located in the city of Quito and is administered by the Zoological Foundation of Ecuador, a non-profit NGO and member of the Latin American Association of Zoological Gardens and Aquariums. It was inaugurated in 1997 by the Metropolitan Mayor, Jamil Mahuad. The Quito zoo is located in the valley of Guayllabamba and is the home for animals. The animals living in this zoo come from various places. The oldest animal in this zoo came from Amazon Zoo of Colegio Militar Eloy Alfaro. You can see the Andean spectacled bear, the largest bird in the world, the emblematic Galapagos giant tortoise, mammals including jaguars and sloths and showy birds. You can also try the traditional food in this area by enjoying the mild climate of the city. Visiting the zoo is the ideal entertainment where most people enjoy and have fun. People can enjoy Quito's ecosystem while exploring wildlife behavior as well. You can also feed some pet animals and have fun with your children. There are several exhibitions at the zoo to visit. The zoo has both amphibians such as reptiles, birds and mammals and other animals from other parts of the world. It has many other attractions to be visited such as the Puddle of the Frogs, the section of Marsupials, Animal House Night, Trails Andean Forest and Dry Forest, a Children's Farm and Visitor Center. You can also attend conferences and workshops on the weekend which is about environment care and biodiversity of Ecuador.
