Teleférico is situated at the eastern end of the city as the boundary between the north and central part of Quito. It is one of the highest aerial lifts in the world, rising from 3,117 meters to 3,945 meters and was opened in 2005 as a tourist spot. The word 'Teleferico' means 'cable car' in Spanish. You can enjoy the city view clearly in the cable car and hike to the volcano. The ride’s official name is TeleferiQo, a combination of 'Teleferico' and 'Quito.' It is a tourist spot as well as a hike to an active volcano Pichincha. It resembles the ski lift and the gondola attractions found in the city. You can enjoy the fog climate in the early morning over here and due to the higher altitude, the climate in this place is cooler than the city. If you want to go hiking then you should stay hydrated to protect yourself by consuming enough water and carry enough bottles with you. Even on a warmer day, you can enjoy the chilly climate in the location. The place is crowded in the day. If you don't like crowded areas then you should visit the place during the morning. You can even do shopping here and have an adventurous time in TeleferiQo.
The location can be reached by taxi within 20 minutes and it is just 9 km from the city. If you would like to go by bus it takes more than an hour to reach the place.
