Plaza de la Independencia also be called Plaza Grande which is the historic place in the city of Quito. This plaza is mainly dedicated to those who contributed towards Independence from the Spanish Monarchy. It is the central square of the city and the executive power of the nation. The square is surrounded by the four streets in four directions such as Calle Venezuela in East, Calle Chile in North, Calle Gabriel Garcia Moreno in the West, and the Calle Eugenio Espejo in South. The plaza consists of the historic structures such as the Solis Theatre that is the country’s oldest theatre, Estevez Palace and Executive Tower that is the Ecuador President's workplaces. The place also served as the central market and the bullfighting area. The Plaza looks more beautiful at night with its illuminating lights. You can see the important things and architecture of Ecuador's history when you visit the Plaza. The protest against the government and marches were frequently held in this location as the Executive Tower is located in this region.
The place can be reached in just 18 minutes from the city center if you opt for a taxi, while by bus, it takes 30 minutes to reach.
Parking lots have two rates. During the day, between 06.00 and 18.00, it costs 75 cents an hour, while between 18.00 and up, parking costs 90 cents.
