Mitad del Mundo, or the middle of the world, is situated in Quito, Ecuador. This is the place where you can see the monument of the equator and the plaza which divides the world in half. There is a dominant monument, and numerous smaller ones constructed around the equator site and a giant museum. Louis Godin, Pierre Bouguer, and Charles Marie de La Condamine were the first who determined the equatorial line in 1736. But, the experiment failed and the GPS measured the exact location of the equatorial line which is 250 meters from the monuments. People who have an interest in exploring international life and culture, Mitad del Mundo is the best place to visit and explore.
You can explore the science and astronomy exhibitions in this attraction. Most people who visit this attraction try egg test on the nail as the gravitational pull is different on the location due to its proximity to the equator. You can also visit the Solar Culture museum and the planetarium. Inside the monument, there is an interesting ethnic museum. You can literally be in two hemispheres at the same time - by placing one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and the other in the Southern Hemisphere!
The monuments are just 27 km from the city. Catch a bus to Ofelia and connect onto the bus for La Mitad del Mundo or take a registered taxi.
