La Capilla del Hombre can be named as "The Chapel of Man." The Man is none other than the one who established the museum. Oswaldo Guayasamín was an Ecuadorian master painter and sculptor of Quechua and Mestizo heritage who established the "La Capilla del Hombre" and can also be named as "Guayasamin Museum." The construction of the museum began in 1996 and inaugurated in 2002 after the death of the great artist Guayasamin. It is the center of recollection where you can find the trajectory of humanity. It is the reflection of the history of Latin America, with the message of commitment to Human Rights and Peace by its impressive architecture, paintings, murals, and sculptures, etc. La Capilla del Hombre was declared by UNESCO as "Priority Project for Culture," as well as "Cultural Heritage of the Ecuadorian State" by the honorable National Congress. The Museum is a place that pays tribute to humankind and inspiration for a better future. The building also consists of a cafe-restaurant, a library, an auditorium, and Guayasamín Workshop stores that finance the Foundation and parking as well.
The museum comprises of three rooms such as Archaeological Museum, the Art of the Colony, and the Huacaynan. The Archaeological Museum consists of 3,000 archaeological pieces and the Art Colony consists of the collection of art done in Ecuador in the colonial era. The contemporary art exhibits the work donated by the master Oswaldo Guayasamin. Huacaynan is the first pictorial series and the word is named in Kichwa which means "The Way of Crying." The Age of Anger and The Age of Tenderness are the second and third wonderful series.
