The Parque El Ejido is located in the center of the city and it is a tree-filled park with volleyball court, slides and jungle gyms for children. There is also a weekend market with various types of handicrafts from the Ecuadorian mountains. The design of the park has typical features of European urbanism. The park is home to 1,470 species of native plants of the inter-Andean region. The park remains very busy on weekends with lots of activities and a large open-air gallery where all types of pencil drawings, oil, and watercolor paintings are exhibited. There is also a library inside the park that you can visit and read newspapers, magazines, etc. Also, there is a game area specially dedicated to children to play slides, swings, see-saws and Chinese ladders. You can also visit few sculptures inside the park such as monument Velasco Ibarra, Bust of Juan Montalvo, Gate of La Circasiana, Monument to Humbolt, Monument to Eloy Alfaro and the Eternal Flame. There are lots of stalls located inside the park where you can buy items which you like most. On weekends, you can find the food vendors and a few street entertainers for having fun and enjoyable weekends with your families and friends.
