About Temple of Heaven

Constructed during the 15th century as a ceremonial space for Emperors, the Temple of Heaven is a historical place of worship used originally by the Ming and Qing emperors to pay homage to heaven and to pay obeisance to it for a rich harvest. It is now used by locals and tourists and designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The hall of this most sacred building of China sits on a 3-tier marble terrace with balustrades and a roof covered with 50,000 blue glazed tiles. The building gives an insight into the Chinese philosophy and religion and is a haven for musicians, dancers, and other performers. The majestic halls, pavilions and gardens inside this ancient building are attractive tourist spots.

Imperial gatherings, prayer ceremonies, and religious events all took place in this very Temple which represents the most majestic and prominent landmark of the country's history and religious identity. Witness to many generations of conquerors, battles and unfortunate events, the walls stand tall and proud and bring to fruition hundreds of years of prayers for a large harvest, such as the success of a country that has continued to impress and innovate. The stunning complex of buildings is a true testament of human aspiration and desire to enter the Gates of Heaven, and therefore becoming closer with God.
